Every February, most of the content you see revolves around love, as it is the month of love—romantic love, familial love, you name it. But over the past couple of years, we are starting to discover and advocate for self-love above everything else.

But let’s face it, practicing self-love becomes increasingly harder, especially for those who are in the workplace. How do you practice self-love when you’re swamped with work? Build a healthy real-ationship with yourself in the workplace starting today with these tips.

  • No more blurred lines—of boundaries!
  • Take that time off, bestie!
  • Tell me who your (work) friends are…
  • Work excellently!
  • Psst! You are more than your work

No more blurred lines—of boundaries!

The pandemic made most of us get into the work-from-home setup, and around 80% of Filipinos prefer it now over the traditional setup. Well, who wouldn’t? With all the flexibility and freedom that remote working offers, it is hard not to fall in love with it. But those good things can easily be exploited, causing us to blur the line between what is personal and professional. If this persists, it’s hard to find the time and space to show yourself love.

To prevent that from happening, here are the three Cs of boundaries you can use to unblur that line between your personal and professional life.

  1. Conviction – instill in yourself the importance of setting work-life boundaries
  2. Communication – allow your teammates to respect the boundaries you created
  3. Control – keep yourself disciplined to maintain and uphold your boundaries

Take that time off, bestie!

Whoever said that you need to be always present at work to get ahead cannot be more wrong!

It’s normal to think that way. We have been used to the idea that we need to put in hard work just to be successful, no matter what the cost is. This is why a lot of us do not use our paid time off credits, thinking that doing so will cause us to slow down in our career growth. In the process of getting ahead in life, we lose the one person we do it for—ourselves.

However, multiple researches over the past several years have shown us that what we thought to be the case is actually not true—and the opposite may be. This Harvard Business Review report laid out the data supporting the idea that taking the time off is actually beneficial in your work performance and career growth, like having more chances of your pay increasing. All the more reasons to take that time off now, right?

Tell me who your (work) friends are…

Having a great team of people to work with can help you maintain that love while in the workplace. As the great Ina Montecillo famously quoted, “Tell me who your friends are, and I’ll tell you who my friends are, para barkada!”

Never underestimate the power of building friendship with your workmates. You do not need to be close with everyone, but a solid handful of people—or even one person—is enough to be your support system at work. A 2022 research by Gallup found that those who have a best friend at work are more likely to get the job done quicker while also having fun. During this time where self-love in the workplace can be hard to find, it is important that we find the people who can share their love to us, parang barkada!

Work excellently!

Nothing shows you love yourself in the workplace more than by being excellent at what you do. Counterintuitive as it seems, but your performance can be an indicator of how you view and feel about yourself as an employee. According to Clear Review, employees who feel good about themselves perform better by being collaborative, creative, and efficient.

Once in a while, you may not feel good about yourself. When that happens, fret not! Kalibrr has some productivity hacks you can use to get your groove back and show your self-love in the workplace.

Pssst! You are more than your work.

At the end of it all, work is just work—nothing more, nothing less. What matters more is how you are doing personally. For all the hard work you have done, do not forget to give yourself credit and be proud of what you accomplished. No amount of work can ever surpass your value and worth, so treasure and love yourself above all.
