As the creator of the number-one eyecare professional-recommended photochromic lenses worldwide, we are proud of our history. In 1990, Transitions Optical was introduced to the industry as a joint venture between PPG Industries and Essilor International S.A., the brand-new company, Inc. With our vision to establish Transitions lenses as a leading eyewear choice for healthy sight providing convenient protection, visual quality and visual comfort we become pioneers in light management and home to many firsts. Over the last 20 years, Transitions Optical has expanded from a cramped office with one portable computer in the Tampa Bay area to an eyecare industry leader that is now home to more than 1,800 committed professionals globally. To meet rapidly growing worldwide demand, Transitions Optical manufacture lenses in USA (Florida), Ireland (Tuam), Philippines (Laguna), and Australia (Adelaide).
In 1999, production was expanded to the Philippines with our newest facility. TOPI is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Transitions Optical Holdings BV (TOHBV). TOHBV is a non-resident corporation duly organized and existing under the laws of Netherlands with principal office at Rijkaweg West 22, 9608 PC, Westerbroek, The Netherlands. In April 1, 2014, Essilor acquired PPG Industries’ stake in TOHBV, making Essilor International full owner of TOHBV and Transitions Optical Group of Companies. Transitions Optical is now a French Company.
TOPI was registered with the Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on July 29, 1998 primarily to engage in the business of manufacturing, production, distribution, selling and exporting of photochromic ophthalmic lenses and goods of similar nature. On October 15, 1998, Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) granted TOPI the certificate of registration No. 98-060 as an export enterprise at the Laguna International Industrial Park, pursuant to the provisions of Presidential Decree No. 66, as amended on April 16, 1990. TOPI’s plant and office are located at Block 4, Lot 1, Star Avenue, Laguna International Industrial Park, Mamplasan, Biñan, Laguna.
Our company has devoted more than a decade of research to photochromics and plastics. In the last few years we’ve continued to make significant advances in colour science and lens materials, creating a better photochromic experience that’s available to more people. We’ve also expanded our family of brands and now have a product for anyone who wants more than a basic lens.
Achieving its vision for four years from being the lowest cost manufacturer of photochromic lenses, our company shifts its vision this 2015 to be a best-in-class TEAM exhibiting a high performing culturefounded on Responsibility, Ownership, Accountability, Discipline & Development.
Transitions Optical is owned by Essilor, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of optical lenses. Essilor was created from Essel and Silor, two companies dating back respectively to 1849 and 1931, which dominated the French optical eyewear market in the mid-20th century. The new company inherited a priceless tradition from its two precursors – the entrepreneurial values of mutual trust, respect and building on differences – which make it unique and encourage a spirit of initiative, enabling it to stay constantly ahead of the curve.
The Group’s corporate culture is built on the innovation which drives its employees on a daily basis and makes it possible to continue creating life-changing solutions: invention of the progressive lens, creation of plastic lenses, as well as lens coatings, hi-tech vision measurement tools and now customization of visual correction…
The mission “seeing the world better”, that means to improve eyesight to contribute to better people’s lives, was explicitly part of the founding agreements of the Group in 1972. This mission results from a rich history; it still drives Essilor’s actions across the globe, setting the stage for the Group’s work in the future.
