The Solar Project Engineer will provide support in electrical design, engineering, procurement, and project management for solar and other renewable energy projects. The Solar Project Engineer will be responsible for performing and managing Solar PV Balance of System electrical system designs, including AC and DC systems, transmission, substation, and interconnection design engineering work associated with brownfield projects with limited supervision. The Solar Project Engineer will be responsible for desktop investigations, studies, planning, modeling, feasibility design, site investigations, geological investigations, surveys, detailed design, drawing production, estimating, construction methodology, delivery, execution, and construction management to ensure safe, on-time, and quality delivery of the project.
- Analyze drawings, layouts, sketches and other related data to determine the capacity of the solar PV system as well as recommend the PV modules and inverters to be used
- Conduct survey visits of areas using various measuring tools and testing equipment
- Provide project descriptions and layouts for the proposals
- Develop designs using advanced computer software (PVsyst, Sunny Design, AutoCAD) in finalizing specifications
- Research new development and innovations
- Provide Single Line Diagram and Bill of Materials of the DC Side of the solar PV System
- Determine the PV mounting system to be used
- Review and consider cost, safety and effectiveness of the materials and equipment
- Coordinate with other teams to accomplish required tasks
- Monitor the progress and accomplishments of each member of the team
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
- Write and present reports
- Review designs and specifications of the electrical system for the solar project, including the solar array layout, DC and AC electrical system designs, grounding, and protection systems.
- Selection of the appropriate size and type of solar panels, inverters, and other electrical components.
- Evaluates outsourced electrical design, control diagrams, protection system and solar components OEM/Contractor offered cost for project viability.
- Evaluates the capacity of the existing electrical infrastructure and determines any necessary upgrades for brownfield optimization strategy.
- Prepare equipment specifications for solar panels, inverters, transformers, switchgear, and other electrical components.
- Review SCADA/control systems of the solar project
- Assess the site's electrical infrastructure to determine the feasibility of interconnecting the solar project
- Determine the appropriate sizing of the solar project's electrical system based on the site's energy demand and solar irradiance data.
- Use specialized software (PVSyst) to model and analyze the performance of the solar project's electrical system. This includes conducting simulations to optimize the system design for maximum energy output and efficiency.
- Conceptualize and prepare presentation materials for management reports
- Prepare detailed electrical drawings, including one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and equipment layouts.
- Monitors projects by conducting site inspection, testing and audits to ensure compliance to design and specifications. Reviews updates from the implementing team.
- Ensure that the solar project's electrical system complies with all applicable electrical codes and standards, such as PEC, IEEE
- Oversee the interconnection and commissioning of the solar project with the local electrical grid. This involves coordinating with the utility company and performing system tests to ensure that the solar project is operating safely and efficiently.
- Oversee the testing and commissioning of the solar project
- Proper turn-over of the project to OMD
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Must be a Licensed /Electrical Engineer
- Preferably with experience in handling works related to solar power plant project development and execution
- With preference of experience in solar PV systems is an advantage
- Proficient in AutoCAD, MS Excel, MS Office, MS Project
- PV Installer Certification is an advantage
- Driven, responsible, punctual, and know how to get things done
- Knowledgeable in electrical standards such as NEC/PEC, IEEE, IEC, ANSI, NFPA, and PGC.
- Knowledgeable in protection systems of substation, switchyard, and transmission line.
- Can supervise field contractors at the site and monitor site activities.
