Job Description

Summary of Work Activities and Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of Department’s Laboratory Manager, faculty member designated as Laboratory Supervisor and Department Chair, the Laboratory Technician I will perform technical and skilled duties in the testing, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of equipment in the Electronics and Computer Laboratories; maintain/repair computer network, and provide support to the department in ensuring a seamless efficiency in the daily laboratory operations. To be assigned primarily and assist in CTC and Faura Hall laboratories.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Repair and Maintenance:
    • Inspect, repair and maintain lab equipment and facilities
    • Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions
    • Test electronic units using standard test equipment and analyze results to evaluate performance & determine need for adjustments
    • Perform preventive maintenance
    • Fabricates products or components using bench lathers, drills or other machine tools
    • Provides support on usage of new & existing equipment with regards to installation, upgrade & enhancements, prepares lab requirements of lab classes
    • Assists and guides students to assure proper operation and maintenance of equipment and laboratory; distributes parts to students for use in laboratory exercises.
    • Provides IT assistance to users, installs necessary softwares, and repairs & maintains IT equipment, plans and schedules software upgrades; tests, debugs, configures and documents software as required to meet user needs.
  • Security and Logistics:
    • Check safety of facilities at Faura Hall and CTC Bldg
    • Ensure that lab policies are implemented and followed always
    • Arranges all facilities needed in meetings, talks, open house and Merit/DL receptions, lab tours
    • Sets up the projector and laptop during classes, meetings and talks
  • Records Management
    • Inventory of materials
    • Manage and/or prepare accident/incident report forms in coordination with laboratory manager
    • Prepare and/or update status of maintenance and repair, report of lab equipment
    • Provide information to Lab Manager on status of lab equipment, repair and maintenance done and other pertinent information related to the facilities
  • Performs other duties that may be assigned by the ECCE Laboratory Manager, Faculty Lab Coordinator and/or Chair

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Machine Shop Skills: Familiar with machine shop tools and equipment available in the department such as, but not limited to: lathe machine, welding machine, milling machine, drill press, metal bender, laser cutter
  • Skills associated with safety precautions to be observed in the maintenance and installation of electronic systems and equipment.
  • Communication: be able to follow and understand oral and written instructions.
  • Can work with minimum supervision, flexible, dependable, innovative and initiative

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree related to Electronics or Licensed Electronics Technician (ECT)
  • Preferably with at least one year work related experience and training
