Foreign Service Institute

The Foreign Service Institute is the career development arm of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA). It was tasked to provide training to the personnel of the DFA and other government agencies assigned to Philippine foreign service posts. The Institute is also mandated to provide research assistance to the DFA and to participate in the Department's planning review process. The Philippine Foreign Service Act specifies the mandate of the Institute to serve as the: 1. center for development and professionalism of the career foreign service corps; 2. research institution for the DFA on issues relating to foreign policy, such as bilateral issues and global and regional strategies; and 3. institutional consultant of the DFA on foreign policy matters, aid in the Department's development through various training programs for its officers and staff, and assist in the planning and review processes of the Department.
