Job Description
Summary of Work Activities and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Director, the Career Advisor assists in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of initiatives related to career development of undergraduate students, networking with the employment sector, and research. This position provides career counseling to undergraduate students and alumni and helps them with education plans, shifting, and other job-related issues (i.e., finding work and setting career goals).
Main Duties and Responsibilities
I. Career Advising
- Provides career resources to undergraduate students and alumni by interpreting career assessment tools, individual/group training sessions, and orientation programs to help them know their abilities, skills, interests, and values.
- Conducts sessions on goal-setting, resume-writing, interview tips, negotiating job offers, and shifting degree concentrations.
II. Networking
- Liaises with both internal (faculty) and external (employment sector) stakeholders to promote employability and facilitate the recruitment and career movement of graduating students and alumni.
- Facilitates placement and referrals for undergraduate and graduating students and alumni looking for employment, internship, further studies, and career movement opportunities.
- Assists in organizing career-related events involving participation of the employment sector, faculty, administrative offices, and student groups (e.g., Annual Career Fair, Career Panel Discussions and Networking Sessions, Work-Orientation Sessions
- Assists in the development, formulation, and evaluation of office systems and publications.
III. Research
- Assists in the design and administration of surveys, including data gathering, data analysis, and writing reports of research outcomes on
- Annual Tracer Studies of Recent Alumni
- Graduates’ Work Performance
- Students’ Employer Preferences
- Annual Exit Survey for Graduating College Seniors
IV. Performs all other tasks assigned by the immediate supervisor and authorized representatives
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Preferably with Master’s degree units
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or other related field
- At least 1 year of relevant work experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Career Development: Knowledge and application of essential career development theories and practice; Ability to administer and interpret career assessment tools and inventories
- Networking and Relationship Management: Ability to develop and maintain productive relationship with employment sector partners, faculty and administrators, alumni and undergraduate students; Ability to represent the university in liaising with other academic institutions
- Project Management: Ability to define clear goals, formulating and implementing project plans, and evaluating outcomes
- Research: Ability to conduct research and write reports
- Data and Information Analysis: Familiarity with SPSS and MS Excel for data coding, statistical analysis, and interpretation of various research outcomes
- Communication and Marketing: Ability to effectively use a range of technology and social media platforms in providing career information and online services
